Since the
incorporation in 1983, BCAA has been organizing various activities to
promote the Borneo cultures, customs and
languages. Most of these programs are
geared towards family activities, which we find important in today’s society.
These
include activities for the elderly so they could stay active.
The Senior Citizens Trip and the Annual Chinese New Year dinner party are
good examples where the elderly get to socialize with one another hence,
improving the quality of life.
Other
activities such as the Adults Christmas Party, Children’s Christmas Party, New
Year Eve Party, Annual Camping Trips etc
are being held each year.
All these
activities are opened to members, including their families.
Such activities help strengthen family values, promote unity, culture and
togetherness among members.

BCAA currently holds several programs, which members and the public could participate. Some of these programs are set up for the preservation or enhancement of heritage, traditions and cultures. Others are for supporting competitive amateur athletics for its members.
The lion dance has always been an important part of the Chinese culture.
The lion is a symbol for bringing good fortune and health by chasing away the
evil spirits.
The
BCAA Lion Dance Club was set up in 1991. The
team consists of Instructors, Advance Seniors, Seniors and Intermediate &
Beginners levels. Majority of our lion dance members are teenagers ranging
from eleven years old and above.
Over
the years, the team has grown from the initial strength of 6 members to
approximately 38 members to-date. It is
hoped that through the BCAA Lion Dance Club, members would not only learn the
proper techniques of lion dancing, but also learn to appreciate, understand and
respect other cultures.
The BCAA Lion Dance team has performed in many
great functions and events in the city of Edmonton, including the Annual
Heritage Festival, The Dragon Boat festival, the Chinese New Year Celebration,
weddings, private functions and banquets.

The
BCAA Cultural Dance Club is lead by Jenny & Edmund Lee.
Both of which are talented cultural dance instructors. Borneo is a
multicultural Island. The BCAA
Cultural Dance Club has about 12 members. Members
are not restricted to the Borneo community. Every
year the Cultural Dance Club was able to come up with some excellence
performances to entertain its members during the Chinese New Year Dinner Party.
It is the goal of BCAA to continue promoting its cultural dance program so the
public would benefit and appreciate the talents of our dancers. |
BCAA
also provides programs to promote amateur athletics. BCAA used to have a
Badminton Club and a Basketball Club, which members could participate as a
leisure sports. Due to the lack of
funds and the available renting spaces, both the BCAA Badminton Club and the
BCAA Basketball club were dismissed. We
would love to continue these two programs in the near future as many of our
registered members were youths of the community.
